Blown Glass Homewares
Emma Lashmar is a visual artist from Boorloo / Perth, passionate about the dynamic qualities of molten glass. When working in the hotshop, Emma is mesmerised by the flow and flux of the process, allowing the dialogue between maker and material to shape each unique form. Once cooled, these glass vessels so tantalizingly capture and refract the light, and are typically effervescent with veils of fine bubbles and layers of textured colour play.
Beginning in Visual Art at Curtin University, Emma transferred to Melbourne’s Monash University for their Fine Arts (Glass) program, graduating with honours in 2009. In the decade that followed, she exhibited widely in solo and group shows in public and commercial galleries and artist-run spaces in Melbourne and Sydney, and had work purchased for notable private collections in Victoria and New South Wales. Highlights include selection for the Craft Vistoria Fresh! Awards in 2007 and 2009, a solo show with MARS Galley in 2010, and being awarded a Freedman Foundation scholarship in 2012, which gave flight to a series of richly rewarding residencies and technical skill development workshops in Argentina, Germany & Scotland.
Having lived interstate and overseas for a decade, Emma reignited her professional practice in Perth with studio residencies at PICA, Paper Mountain, Vancouver Arts Centre and ArtsHouse, Bassendean. As an outlet for her ever-evolving collection, Emma Lashmar Art launched online and in select local retail stores in 2020. The ethos behind these works: Crafting functional wares in blown glass to elevate the everyday. Unique and joyful pieces, designed to bring precious focus to quiet rituals and celebratory moments.
Emma remains deeply curious about the intimate relationship we develop with the particular vessels we select to use in our daily lives, and enjoys bringing this passion and expertise to collaborative projects for private and public spaces. Over the years, the artist has been commissioned to design and produce custom lighting and tableware for high-profile clients, including iconic Australian restaurants Vue de Monde, Penfolds Magill Estate and Tedesca Osteria (Gourmet Traveller Restaurant of the Year 2022) . She relishes the challenges of creating custom installations for venues, or curating a consciously designed element for your home, so contact Emma directly to arrange a time where we can discuss how best to realise your bold ideas.
Emma Lashmar’s wares are currently available at local stockists including the Art Gallery of WA Design Store, Mundaring Arts Centre, and Juniper Galleries.
