Maker& Smith presents selected works by three eminent WA jewellers at Melbourne Design Fair 2023
Maker & Smith will take part for the first time in Melbourne Design Fair in May!
We were delighted to accept the invitation to participate and are thrilled to showcase three extraordinary and contrasting Western Australian jewellers from our curated Directory: Sarah Elson, Eden Lennox, and Melissa Cameron.
We will be the only exhibitors from WA! If you are in Melbourne 18-21 May – find our display at Booth C9 (near the Bar & Lounge!)
Sarah Elson‘s brooches, pins and rings are cast and assembled with a focus on the ephemeral and precious nature of flora. Equally sumptuous as adornment on the body, as artwork on the wall or in a cabinet of curiosities. Sarah Elson is a member of Art Collective WA.
Eden Lennox‘s new collection is fizzing with humour and energy, inspired by the disgracefully aging dames of the punk era. As Eden says, “punk’s not dead, she’s just gone to bed”. Eden is repurposing amongst other materials, knitting needles into outrageous rings.
Melissa Cameron‘s ‘Body/Politic’ series uses enamel on steel to make two-tone pixels that are assembled to be read in binary code. Melissa featured in two short films in the MFF21 program and made the epic ‘Juukan Tears’ for the inaugural Indian Ocean Craft Triennial, IOTA21.
MELBOURNE DESIGN FAIR is at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
An initiative of @ngvmelbourne and #melbournedesignweek .
Open 18-21 May 2023. Book tickets here.
Find our display as part of HALLMARK at Booth C9.

In July 2017, Maker & Smith was founded by Mary Ellen Cliff and Carola Akindele-Obe. Their primary objective was to fulfil their strong desire to elevate the professional craft industry in Western Australia. Maker & Smith operates on a volunteer basis and aims for self-sustainability without compromising standards. We rely on partnerships and pay fair fees to skilled artisans and designer-makers who participate in our programs.
Maker & Smith respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work, including the Whadjuk, Pibelman, and Minang peoples of the Noongar nation. We recognise the importance of their culture and the ongoing contribution they make to the life of this region. We also recognise the significance of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, which calls for constitutional recognition and the establishment of a First Nations Voice enshrined in the Constitution.
Always was, always will be.
