Kate Weedon-Jones’ textile practice has spanned over 40 years.
Coming from a design-oriented family her passion for textiles and design was fuelled from a young age. So it’s no surprise that Kate completed a BA in Design with a Textile Major in 1978 at WAIT (now Curtin University). After graduating she worked hard at her practice, participating in exhibitions, fashion parades, retail sales and commissions.
Kates says that she still enjoys the techniques and low-fibre handmade approaches that she used in the 1980s – including dyeing, batik, weaving, screen-printing, applique and stitch.
Kate is an experienced teacher and lecturer in textile design at tertiary institutions, for workshops and tutoring in community programs, including the art classes at Fremantle Arts Centre.
Kate often opens her studio to the public at the J-Shed in Fremantle.
She is available for commissions and workshops too. Otherwise, find her work at Found at Fremantle Arts Centre (soon!).
