Susie Vickery creates embroidered animations, automata and textile pieces.
She began her professional making life as a theatrical costumier in Australia and the UK, specialising in men’s 19th century dress. After moving to Kathmandu and Mumbai she worked as a craft consultant with income generation and community art workshops with projects in India, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Mexico and Turkey, responding to local materials and artistic traditions.
One of her latest projects is an immersive exhibition that focuses on the story of the French Botanist Jacques-Julien Houtou de Labillardiere – Peregrinations of a Citizen Botanist – exhibited at Mundaring Arts Centre in Western Australia.
Susie regularly delivers workshops and is always busy stitching and devising the next ambitious project.
Susie is based in Fremantle and available for commissions, exhibitions and workshops.
